Holy Week Prayer Vigil

Join us for a unique Lenten prayer vigil as we create a sacred space for personal prayer and reflection. Our prayer chapel will be open for hour-long shifts from Good Friday until Easter morning, allowing you to come and go as your schedule permits.

Pray? For a whole hour?

Yes – an hour goes quicker than you think, we promise! Many previous participants actually prefer to sign up for blocks of two or more hours.

During your time in the chapel, you will have the opportunity to deepen your connection with God through individual prayer and contemplation. You may choose to sit in silence, meditate, read scripture, or engage in other devotional practices that resonate with you.

We will provide devotionals, hymnals, prayer books, and Bibles to enhance your prayer experience. In addition, we will provide a list of members to pray for, allowing you to lift up your fellow community members in prayer during this holy season.

If you’re not sure where to start, we will also provide sample prayers to inspire and guide your devotional practice.

Introspective and moving.
A renewal for all.

What will the prayer chapel be like?

The Parlor will serve as our prayer chapel during Holy Week.

We will be using the Parlor as our prayer chapel. It is cozy and private, with comfortable places to sit. During the day it looks out on the garth, and at night there are lamps for a prayerful ambience.

Peaceful music will play in the background, creating a calming and serene environment for your personal reflection.

A large candle is a focal point for prayer. At the end of Good Friday worship, as darkness falls, the candle will be brought to the prayer chapel where we will keep watch. On Easter Morning the candle will be brought back to the sanctuary and we will light the tall Paschal candle from it, symbolizing Jesus’ resurrection.

Light refreshments will be provided, so you can stay nourished and hydrated during your time in the chapel. Additionally, a private bathroom is available in the chapel for your convenience.

What about security?

We understand that safety is a top concern for many people, which is why we will have attendants present at night to ensure a safe and peaceful environment. In addition, cameras will be used to monitor the entrance and hallways, and the police will be keeping an eye on the building.

To ensure that you can access the chapel when an attendant is not present, we will provide a key in a lockbox outside the building for your use. We’ll send you the instructions for the lockbox prior to your shift.

Can I pray at home?

While we welcome you to join us in community prayer and worship anytime and anyplace, this event is primarily focused on keeping watch together in prayer at the church. If you register for a shift, please make sure you are able to attend in person.
